Electroplating FAQ’s

Q – Do you offer a chrome plating service?
A – No, the services we offer are Zinc Electroplating and Powder Coating. The only two chrome platers in the lower south island are in Invercargill and Geraldine.

Q – Can you strip chrome plating?
A – No. Chrome is a very hard metal and it is best to get a chrome plater to strip this off. The only two chrome platers in the lower south island are in Invercargill and Geraldine.

Q – Can you zinc plate small car parts?
A – Yes, however they need to be cleaned up. Any paint needs to be stripped, heavy rust, dirt and grime removed. We recommend buffing on a bench grinder with a wire wheel.

Powder Coating FAQ’s

Q – How much will it cost to powder coat my wheels?
A – This can vary widely due to the amount of preparation that will be needed to get your wheels ready for powder coating. Are they alloy or steel? Also the finish you require will affect the price. Prices can be anywhere from $120 to $240 or more per wheel.

Q – Do I have to disassemble my item for powder coating?
A – Yes. Anything plastic or rubber needs to be removed as the powder coating is baked on at 200 degrees Celsius. Generally the more something is disassembled, the easier it will be to coat, resulting in a better finish.
